Psalm 107 ~ God’s Love is Steadfast

Posted By marita on July 8, 2010

For the 1st two weeks of July my memory verse is 107:9 “For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things”.  I chose this verse as one of the verses under the topic of seeking God. As I studied the chapter surrounding this verse, there is SO MUCH MORE.

The title this chapter is given in my Bible is “Let The Redeemed of the Lord Say So”.  If I were titling this chapter it would be “The Steadfast Love of God”.  It is chalked full of examples of God’s mercy and deliverance.  I encourage you to read it for yourself, but below is my outline of this wonderful chapter.

Psalm 107 is the first of the chapters in the fifth section of the Psalms.  Book 5 references the fifth book of the Pentateuch (Deuteronomy).

Psalms 107 has 43 verses

The chapter is divided into 4 groups of those who had been redeemed:

  1. Some wondered in desert wastes, lost.
  2. Some sat in darkness, in the shadow of death.
  3. Some were fools.
  4. Some were at sea.

God brought them all through their circumstances.

  • They chose to go into their respective depravity
  • They suffered the consequences
  • They cried out to God
  • God rescued them. His Love is steadfast.

Psalm 107 urges the redeemed to give thanks to the Lord for His steadfast Love. Four times in this chapter we are shown how those that have been redeemed were lost and suffering.  When they felt they couldn’t go on they cried out to God and He came and rescued them.

What a picture for us as sojourners here, struggling in our day to day .  We too, have a rescuer who will come to us in our distress (what -ever that looks like for you).  God will come to you and me where we are in our depravities, in our frailties, in our failures and pull us out.  Praise His Name! For he is a God of steadfast LOVE! All we have to do is cry out to Him.  Four times in this chapter (verses 6, 13, 19, and 28) it says “Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.”

Let us thank Him for His steadfast Love!

Again, I urge you to read Psalm 107 for yourself and see what encouragement you discover . Let me know.
